The Granary Square benches make a truly superb asset for King’s Cross. The quality and materiality of design is outstanding and complements both the historic buildings and fountains within our square. Not only do they look great, but they are also ergonomic and comfortable to use, feedback we have been pleased to hear from visitors to the square.

The sculpture in question is beautiful and has generated a huge amount of interest and publicity in various journals both here and overseas which has also proved a bonus for our building.

Ian McChesney Architect’s design and the associated landscaping works, whilst being highly innovative also show great empathy for the location and the landscape heritage of the parkland situation. The council is very proud of this new pavilion which has been universally admired and has generated many thousands of visitors the building and the parks in which it is situated.

We used Ian as our architect for a whole house refurbishment and he was a consummate professional from start to finish. Carefully listening to what we needed, Ian rapidly created a range of designs that helped us to understand what was possible and iterate through to a final design and set of detailed plans. The contractors Ian recommended were excellent and the best builders we have used. As work progressed and unforeseen issues arose, Ian helped us to swiftly resolve them with creative designs. We are delighted with the outcome, especially the structural changes, and never would have achieved it without Ian’s involvement.

Ian McChesney architects designed and project managed the kitchen extension on our large Edwardian home. We live in a conservation area and within the Dulwich Estate and so having an architect with experience of working creatively within the requirements of these bodies and with close working relations with decision-makers within The Dulwich Estate was absolutely key to achieving a smooth and straight forward planning application process.  Ian listened carefully to our wishes and produced a fantastic design which incorporated everything we asked for as well as elements we didn't even know we needed but know couldn't do without! In working with Ian we achieved a contemporary, striking, light, and airy family space which sits beautifully alongside the period style of the existing house. Thanks to Ian's solid connections with local contractors the build came in on budget and within the time frame agreed. We are delighted with our new kitchen and with our experience of working with Ian McChesney architects.

...it is perhaps fitting that the sculpture ‘Arrival & Departure’, expresses so aptly this sense of being part of a continuum - of past and present - comings and goings – taking time to reflect whilst constant pressing forward. These ideals we felt represent what shapes and makes a University and indeed reflects the city within which we are located – Plymouth – with its rich maritime history and global reach.

We enjoyed the whole process of working with Ian. He is very knowledgeable, creative and professional. He responded well to our brief and our comments throughout as ideas developed. The team of contractors he works with are also excellent. Ian worked in close contact with the builders and made regular visits on site to make sure everything was going according to plan. We are extremely pleased with the end result, it’s a fantastic addition to the house. We love the design and the materials that were used. He kept close to the budget and deadline.
