House, 2014
Redberry Grove, Sydenham
Modern new-build eco-house built using prefabricated timber frame construction and black glass cladding.
A new-build five-bedroom family house in the Sydenham Park Conservation area. The house was designed along Passivhaus principles to comply with the environmental standard Code for Sustainable homes level 4.
The site of this house was at the end of a line of houses straddled by two roads Redberry Grove and Albion Villas. While the existing houses all faced towards Redberry Grove they also all had rear entrances from Albion Villas, so the house was designed with entrances facing both Roads, the Redberry entrance more formal and the Albion entrance more utilitarian. Existing trees on the site were all retained and nestle up to the glazed elevations prompting the client to name the house accordingly.
The house was constructed on concrete piles from a prefabricated timber frame which was erected on site in just under a week. The structure of the house is clad in black glass panels which provide a clean crisp appearance.
