McChesney Architects was founded in 2001 by Ian McChesney formerly of John McAslan + Partners. The practice is engaged in a broad variety of work ranging from residential commissions to higher profile projects won through competition. In 2002 the firm won the commission for a series of rotating wind shelters on Blackpool's South Shore promenade. The shelters were completed in 2006 and received much critical acclaim including an award from the Civic Trust. This year saw the completion of the practice's first significant building Avenham Park Pavilion in Preston. Amongst other projects is a public realm scheme for the A66 dual carriageway in Middlesbrough and a new family house in South London. The practice was recently a finalist in the BD Young Architect of the Year Award.
