This is an extension to the Showroom Cinema in Sheffield, which currently occupies a 1930’s warehouse style building. It is on a prominent site overlooking a main road in to the city and the exit from the mainline railway station. The scheme provides the cinema with a new clearly legible entrance, another auditorium and flexible office space above. While the site is rectangular, we elected to taper the building – this provides the opportunity to create a new external space outside the entrance, from which images can be projected onto the building’s façade.
