Practice Projects: Public Realm:
|
The practice was invited by Rosendale Allotments Association to design a new flexible community building for their own use and by local community groups. The new building will provide a multi-purpose hall, meeting spaces, an office, internal and external stores, kitchen and toilets. The building will replace an existing timber structure currently located on a gap site in a row of 1930s suburban houses. The building is of contrasting style, constructed from timber with polycarbonate screens. The layout respects that of its neighbours. To the rear of the building is an external storage area followed by a small internal store and toilet area. This outbuilding aligns with the many sheds located at the end of neighbouring gardens. The allotments association wanted an environmentally low impact building; some of the environmentally derived design features include timber frame and cladding, sedum roof and solar power. |
